The Old Rectory, Pyworthy - DEVON

13th - 16th March 2025
Arrival time: 6pm Thursday 13th March

Departure time: 9:30am Sunday 16th March

Our popular Spring Retreat will be held at The Old Rectory in Pyworthy, Devon. As the days get longer and we welcome in more light, join Julu and Heg and sing your way into spring!

We are delighted to be offering this stunning new location with luxury accomodation for our Spring Retreat this year. The Old Rectory is a beautiful, secluded, grade two listed building, set within ten acres of ancient woodland.  Alongside the main building there is the Coach House where additional accommodation is found, as well as the Former Village Hall within the grounds of the house which will become our singing and workshop space.

The house is set within it's own private grounds so our singing bubble will be totally private and tucked away!

We keep all communal areas in the building free from phones, tablets, laptops or devices of any kind. Enjoy a break from technology and connect with each other.

Workshops will include lots of easy rounds and loop songs, breath explorations and singing technique workshops. You will also learn unique arrangements of traditional and contemporary folk songs by Julu and Heg in four part harmony, arranged for this retreat. Explore your voice in a supportive and safe setting, develop new skills and discover sounds you didn't know you had!

There will be guided walks in the nearby woodland and surrounding Devon countryside, where you can breathe nature in and enjoy the amazing rural Devon scenery.  The difficulty level of these walks are moderate in difficulty, but can be challenging if the weather is wet. We strongly advise good quality walking shoes and wet weather gear.

Walk are undertaken at participants own risk. Please let one of the team know if you have any concerns about the walks.

Evenings are a chance for some fun, informal singing with a drink in hand! Julu and Heg will facilitate song shares and singarounds with chorus-driven songs. Join in, share a song of your own or just sit back and listen and take in the energetic atmosphere. Bring your instrumentsand song books if you have them!

Remember that our retreats are a no-technology zone so bring paper and pens and print outs of any songs you wish to share.

On the final night of the retreat there will be a cabaret where you are invited to share something (only if you want to - there is no obligation to join in). The cabaret has evolved into a beautiful and special part of these retreats where our participants get to show each other some of the small group songs learnt over the weekend as well as have a go at performing. We encourage everyone to dress up and make this part of the weekend extra special!

The Old Rectory offers beautiful, comfortable bedrooms along with large communal spaces full of charm. The living room has comfortable sofas and a grand piano.

We have a selection of different room types to choose from depending on whether you are coming as a group, two sharing or as a solo traveller.
